Post and Core is a treatment method to save severely broken down teeth. If most of the tooth structure above the gums is lost either due to decay or due to fracture then Post and Core build up is done to save the remaining tooth from extraction. Post and Core provides support to the tooth from inside the root of the tooth.

In this procedure first the Root Canal Treatment of the tooth is completed; after which a special tooth coloured Fibre Post is cemented within the root and a Core is built around the Fibre Post. The core is then shaped and a custom made permanent Crown is cemented onto this Post-Core-Tooth complex restoring the natural look and function of the tooth

A Post and Core treatment is usually the 'last hope' of survival for the tooth.
