The three aspects of facial treatment are Wrinkle reduction, Lip sculpting and Dermal fillers.
At Charlton Park Dental Practice we take great pride in the services we offer to our patients and from the moment you walk through the door, our staff will do their very best to make you feel welcome and at ease.
Botox is the trade name by which Botulinum Treatment A is widely known. It has been used for a variety of medical conditions including blepharospasm and muscle spasticity for over 20 years.
Botulinum TYPE A is the preferred treatment for softening wrinkles for facial aesthetic treatments and is used around the world. It is also used for a variety of medical conditions, including Blepharospasm and muscle spasticity.
Glabellar Lines
Glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, are vertical
lines that appear between the eyebrows.
They appear over time due to the effects of aging, sun
exposure and frowning. As a person ages, the skin becomes
less elastic and the Glabellar lines become more evident.
Sometimes glabellar lines stay permanently in the face,
making it appear that the person is always frowning. The
treatment leaves your skin looking clear and wrinkle free.
Glabellar lines can be easily removed with a
specific pattern of injections designed to relax the facial
muscles that cause your frown lines to appear. These muscles
are called the corrugator and procerus. Deeper wrinkles are
able to be removed with dermal fillers.
Horizontal Brow Lines
Horizontal brow lines are the horizontal long lines that run
across the forehead. Temporary ones form during normal
expression such as shock and surprise due to the raising of
eye brows. Over time, due to the skin loosing elasticity,
these lines become deep and permanent, even when the face is
relaxed, making one look older.
The
Frontalis muscle causes these lines due to it being the only
muscle the raises the eyebrows. With the use of BOTOX® it's
possible to relax the muscle to reduce and usually eliminate
these wrinkles.
Crow's Feet
Crow's feet are also called 'Laughter Lines'. They are fine
lines that appear at the corners of the eyes. They usually
appear while smiling or laughing when you're young but as
you age the skin loses elasticity so even when the face is
relaxed they are prominent.
The main
cause for Crow's Feet is sun exposure, which ages the skin
and encourages squinting. Smoking is also a cause. However,
they are also simply a part of the ageing process of the
face. They will start small and expand over time. They can
often make a person look their age and often they look tired
as the wrinkles cause the area around the eye to look
darker.
They are treated with very small
injections to the Obicularis Oculi muscle which surrounds
the eye. The injections also tighten the skin of the eyelid
and give a slight lift to the eyebrow. This is a
rejuvenating procedure that will brighten your face.
Smoker's Lines
Smoker's lines occur as we get older and the lip naturally
starts to lose its volume. They are vertical wrinkles that
form between the upper lip and lower nose. They are more
common and pronounced in smokers, as these are the muscles
that tense in order to clasp the cigarette in the mouth.
They can often make one look older than their true age and
can cause the lips to look lifeless. The treatment plumps
the skin up around the mouth, removing the wrinkles and
giving the skin a smooth natural look.
Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial Folds are deep lines around the nose and mouth.
Dermal fillers offer instant results in the reduction of
these lines. These deep lines can make you look your age.
The procedure uses dermal fillers to fill in the crease
and plump the skin to give it a more youthful look. The
treatment doesn't take long, doesn't require surgery and the
effects are immediately visible. The skin around the mouth
looks smooth but natural.
Lip Enhancement
Lip Enhancement increases the definition to the lips and
clearly defines the cupids bow. It helps to make the lips
look more full and healthier. As time goes by, lips
naturally lose their volume, appearing thinner and less
defined. Wrinkles and fine lines can alter the smooth look
of your lips and the corners of the mouth may even turn
down, giving a tired and aged appearance. The treatment is
Cheek Augmentation
The volume of our cheek area decreases gradually as we age
as the malar fat pads move down due to the force of gravity.
This loss of volume is more obvious on slender patients. The
cheek bones become less pronounced and the skin becomes
saggy causing lack of definition to the face and an aged
look.
Dermal fillers offer an immediate
but subtle cheek enhancement. The additional volume to the
cheeks make the face appear more youthful. The effect is not
designed to be dramatic, but a subtle improvement that looks
natural. This is a quick solution with immediate effects
with minimal swelling and bruising.
The
treatment for cheek augmentation is only temporary and the
length of its effect is influenced by what type of dermal
filler is used. Advanced dermal filler allow the smoothest
and most natural look and lasts from 9-12 months.
It works by reversibly targeting the small muscles of the face and damping down their contraction, thus softening lines and wrinkles. BTX also works in a similar way on sweat glands to stop the production of sweat.
Do nothing differently, just go about your normal activities as you would normally.
Botox Treatment can be used for treating wrinkles in men and women, however men often need slightly higher doses than women.
» People with infection at the
proposed injection site.

People who have previously had an allergic reaction to
Botulinum Treatment type A injections.
»
People with muscle problems or chronic diseases affecting
the muscles, such as Myasthenia Gravis, Eaton Lambert
syndrome.
» Children under
the age of 18 years.
» Women
who are pregnant or breast feeding.
It takes two weeks for BTX to be fully effective, but you will notice the first changes after four to five days. The effects last three to four months depending on your response, but repeat treatments may last for longer. It is not immediately reversible but always gradually wears off.
Yes, as long as you are medically suitable it is extremely safe.
The pain associated with injections is mild and no local anaesthetic is required. The needles used are very fine and approximately the same diameter as coarse human hair.
You will be able to drive and engage in all of your usual daily activities immediately after your injections. You may develop slight bruising at the injection sites, but otherwise there will be no visible signs of your skincare treatment.
In rare cases, the botox can migrate to nearby muscles, causing some weakness, such as drooping of the upper eyelid. This is a temporary side effect, lasting for a few weeks at most.
Botox injections may on occasions be prescribed for the management of excess sweating; in a small number of cases, there is no discernible effect; unfortunately this is impossible to predict before treatment commences.
Lips are one of the most visible characteristics of our faces and we should not underestimate the impact that well-defined naturally full looking lips can have. Lip volume is governed by both our genetic code and also by the ageing process and exposure to UV light and pollutants (especially smoking).
A loss of lip volume and definition can be detrimental to the balance of the face as can having excessive upper lip creases, or mismatched upper and lower lips.

Lip fillers consist of synthesised hyaluronic acid (HA or sodium hyaluronate), which is a natural component of lip collagen. Hyaluronic acid holds water which imparts volume and hydrates the lips. Lip augmentation procedures use the inherent water-binding properties of HA to restore a natural volumised look to the lips.
Do nothing differently. Just go about your day to day activities as normal. Your lips will be cleansed and sterilised at the time of the procedure so try not to use any lipstick or cosmetics.
If having lip plumping and defining, you will need to have an anaesthetic block. This will be injected so that the lips are completely numb and so you will not feel any pain when the lip filler is being injected.
Lip filler will be injected into the vermillion border (the edge of the lips where the skin meets the lip itself) and also into the lips themselves in so that the lips have a fuller, poutier and feminine appearance. You will have a mirror to hand and you will be able to see the effect immediately. We aim to get the result that you are looking for and will not overfill your lips – NO TROUT POUT GUARANTEED.
The hyaluronic acid is a gel-like solution and is injected into the lips to add volume in the vermillion border and also into the body of the lips themselves. The filler holds water within its molecular bonds and plumping the structure of the lips from within.
Hyaluronic acid fillers last from 6 – 15 months depending on how each individual responds to the filler ingredients. Some people degrade the filler faster than others.
They are all fully biodegradable and will break down gradually over time. As the absorption times differ with individuals, how the area looks and feels is the best indicator that a top-up is needed.
There are very few reported side effects with these products, bruising being the most common as with any injections. This is usually minimal and can be covered effectively with make up.
You must mention to your practitioner if you are taking any blood thinning medications ie. aspirin or warfarin as one would be at higher risk of bruising. However, this does not mean that we cannot proceed, it just mean we will take extra care to minimise bruising.
There is usually some swelling after having a lip enhancement and it is advisable to relax and minimise strenuous activity in the 24 hours after having the treatment.
After treatment, anti-inflammatories (e.g. ibuprofen) can help to reduce the swelling and we will provide you with a cool ice pack to place on the lips. It is important to keep the lips clean and dry and to leave the lips to settle down without any excessive rubbing or manipulation.
These are non-animal derived products made of a material called hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance widely distributed within the human body. Over 50% is found in the skin where it is essential for water retention, wound healing and tissue repair – especially after sun damage. It is one of the main components responsible for that plump, smooth, youthful look in young skin.
Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial Folds are deep lines around the nose and mouth.
Dermal fillers offer instant results in the reduction of

Corners of The Mouth
As we grow older, we may develop short horizontal lines
radiating outwards from the corners of our mouth.
These lines can give the mouth a straight or even
downturned, sad appearance and can age the face. Treatments
for these lines are quick and have an immediate effect.
Dermal fillers help to give the mouth area a more youthful
appearance as the wrinkles appear reduced.
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth down to
the chin. These lines are caused when the skin loses
elasticity due to ageing and the damaging effects of sun
exposure. Weight loss can also cause marionette lines, when
fat is lost on the face excess skin over hangs in the corner
of the mouth.
Dermal fillers are an
effective treatment for marionette lines; they can thicken
the skin and reduce the marionette fold lines. Fillers
increase the volume to the area where wrinkles are apparent
making the cheeks more volumized and the wrinkles appear
reduced.
Chin Augmentation
Treatments are available to improve the overall look of the
jaw and chin area, and dermal fillers are a brilliant way to
shape and alter the facial contours to a more suitable
profile. A weak or under formed chin may be genetic and can
contribute to diminishing a person's overall appearance and
confidence.
Dermal filler is used on the
cheek bones or around the chin bone to tighten the skin and
create more definition in the chin and jowl area, reducing
the appearance of a weak chin. A little swelling and redness
around the treated area can be expected for a few days after
any procedure; however results can be dramatic and can be
seen immediately after treatment.

You will notice a difference instantly. The hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down to water but the effect can last from anything between 6 – 18 months depending on the areas treated, skin quality, quantity of product placed and general health and lifestyle.
Restylane® is very safe as it is entirely natural and thus extremely biocompatible. There are some groups of people who should not have treatment however; including women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and anyone susceptible to keloid scarring. In addition, people on certain medication may not be suitable for treatment. We will take a full medical and drug history from you as part of your assessment appointment to ensure that treatment is safe for you.
Treatment is carried out using the latest techniques, usually using a flexible cannula. These clever devices are blunt, flexible tubes which cause much less trauma to the tissues than administration with a needle and also mean fillers can be placed via one or two entry points rather than multiple injection points (as with needle placement). There is already local anaesthetic in the filler but additional local anaesthetic (in the form of a cream or injection) is given as well before-hand to make the procedure completely pain-free. Again, there may be some swelling, redness or bruising but this is easily concealable and will not last for long.
As we age, the essential structure of our face changes. The creeping years, gravity, sun, lifestyle and smoking all contribute to lines and volume loss. Volume loss tends to occur in the mid-face around the cheek-bones and eye areas leading to descent of tissue and increasing lines around the nose to mouth, chin and jowl areas (naso-labial and marionette lines).
These problems have traditionally been treated with filler in the lower face (naso-labial and marionette areas) but this can lead to a heavy, unbalanced look.
A better approach is to replace the lost volume in the mid-face sculpting and restoring the cheek area and rejuvenating the tear-trough area with dermal fillers. Along with some subtle botulinum treatment to open the eyes and lift the brows and the jowls this can rejuvenate the face in an entirely natural manner.
This treatment is very much tailored on an individual basis, using the latest minimally invasive techniques to obtain optimal and beautifully natural results.
